Yes, it’s true. Sometimes Christians worry, a lot. Despite knowing and being reminded that—1) we ought to give it to God; 2) that worry is not trusting God; and 3) worry is the opposite of faith—we can’t help ourselves.
Intellectually, believers understand the concepts. Practically though, turning off the worry machine of our brains is hard work. Work that requires practice in the form of praying, asking others for prayer, and staying in God’s Word so that you can do as He says, “casting your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
The people in the Bible, both in the Old Testament and the New Testament, worried too. Their worries of course aren’t our modern-day worries, but they had the same intensity of emotion. The same fears of losing control, the same doubt, the same pain. God’s Word spoke to them, and His Word speaks to us now.
In the spirit of practicing the act of staying in God’s Word so that you find it easier to give your worries to Him, here are nine freeing scriptures for those of us who worry too much:
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
